The Escape

Romoke stood by the door, wondering if it was okay to intrude again. Everything else seemed hazy as she tried to shake off the bad memories.

Her face was bare this time
around, no filters. She rang the doorbell as desperately as she could. She heard her
friend’s lazy footsteps from a distance.

Ada was still in her pyjamas when she saw the
swollen cheek and black eye. She screamed in horror. “What on God’s green earth
happened to you Aderomoke?!” Romoke stammered an answer “He has started again”,
feeling helpless and trapped.

She had managed to sneak out of her house.
She still believed the lies Collins constantly fed her with and so she kept going back to
him. Tears ran down her cheeks as she remembered what waited for her back home.
“What are you still doing with him?” her friend asked with a stern look.

“Where do I start from Ada? Collins has stripped me of nearly everything. I have no life
of my own and I have to depend on him for basically everything we need”. They talked
for hours and Ada promised to do something. She feared for her friend’s life. Ada took
her friend’s bag and asked, “all your documents are here abi?” Romoke nodded with a
weak smile.

Collins was hot tempered and impatient. She had to get home fast. She hugged her
friend and picked a cab home. The door creaked and broke the silence as Romoke
sneaked in. Collins was fast asleep. Empty bottles of vodka lay on the ground. She
looked at him with disgust and disdain and walked straight into the room where she
changed and took a bath. She lay quietly on her bed and fell asleep in no time.

The sharp pain of her hair being pulled woke her up. Collins dragged her off the bed as
usual and pulled her down to the rug, tying her down. She screamed at the top of her
lungs as she felt the sharp pain of the needle he injected into her arm...

...to be continued.
