DEAR PREACHER'S CHILD
Dear preacher's child
You are a lot of times misunderstood
Often held to a higher standard
The pressure, the expectations.
"Sit up straight"
"Smile and greet"
"Don't be selfish"
"Be an example"
"Flee from sin"
"Cover your hair"
"Respect the elders"
To whom much is given, much is expected right?
If I slip, I'm doomed
If I fail, I'll be mocked
If I falter, it's over
My reputation
My parents scorned
Probably insulted
Well I don't want that!
Mistakes? Sins? Ha!
It must not be heard of.
I can't afford to mess up
Not now, not ever!
It'll be shameful.
Have you ever stopped to think?
Hold on, I'm HUMAN
(Not that it's an excuse to be exorbitant)
But I AM human first before this automatic tag I have been given.
Look out for yourself, before finding the said Grace to fulfill these 'obligations'.
You cannot give out of an empty place
Build your character, boundaries.
Independent of people, set your Joy goals, your own expectations.
Dear Preacher's child, whenever you do fall(and you likely will)
Make sure your circle is there to catch you.
Strong ones!
Warriors in heels
Soldiers in suits
Dear Preacher,
Please don't be oblivious
Accept their shortcomings.
Deal with it from the point of wisdom.
In the end, we become refined.
We learn, hard or easy.
We become better humans.
Most of all, better children of God.

ReplyDeleteGood one right here
Yes! Any tips on how to break out of them?
ReplyDeleteWow....
ReplyDeleteThanks for this piece, more anointing
ReplyDeletePrivileged!
DeleteWhat we could have learn about one another in 5 years we learnt in just 30 odd days. Even Heaven know we need the break: one that we never planned; one holiday that was never one. To give attention to the things that matter.
ReplyDeleteLovely!
Thanks Sir!
DeleteThanks for this piece. We (preacher's kids) find ourselves in this trap once in a while.... I pray we continuously grow into God's perfect image 👍
ReplyDeleteA huge amen to that! Thank you!
