FAITH AND MEDICINE
Have you ever toyed with understanding the place of pills in
the principles of faith; or surgeries and chronic diseases? If you have, what
has your experience been? We see many people with all sorts of ailments and yet
they choose not to go for checkup or even take drugs for the fear that will be
tagged “faithless” or seen as people that don’t believe in the power of God to
heal. I recently had a conversation with a Dr. Friend of mine (I will
call her Mrs. S for the purpose of this article) and she agreed that there were
many misconceptions and she mentioned one major misconception.
Surgeries: Mrs. S shared her experience with some Christian patients
and how a lot of them see surgery as a punishment or proof that God’s love for
them is non-existent. There have even been many instances where women share a
testimony of having children by natural birth and not C.S ( like it was some
form of dreaded disease!) .She gave an example where a particular patient was
told that she was going to have her child through caesarian section (CS), or
where she had to ask patient who had
complained of feeling ill, if she had
ever fainted before and the first reaction was “God forbid”!.
" Medicine is not antagonizing faith, It is supposed to help our faith because the wisdom we have to make people’s lives better, I don’t think that would be from the devil. The wisdom from God is supposed to support the will of God "
We have managed to so stigmatize sick people, believing
that they have, (for whatever reason) sinned against God. Over time, this has been a false belief that we have managed
to drag around, believing these medical procedures are God’s way of judging us
for the wrong we did! How untrue!!! Surgeries
were designed to correct things and to ensure people lived better lives. We don’t
have to wait till symptoms and conditions get worse and have gotten to the
stage of decay, before we go to the hospital for checkup and treatments.
So, people! Keep this in mind and the next time you don’t
feel too well, biko! Go see a Dr. ! (PS: Corona is an exception, please take
precautionary health and safety measures and call for help!).
"T for tenks!!!"
